<text>Complete typewritten text of the ordinance granting Iowa Railway and Light Company a 25-year, non-exclusive franchise to build and operate electric plants, lines and a high-voltage transmission line in Dana and to carry on a general electric light and power business. Passed by the Council Dec 9, 1914 and submitted to the voters at the special election of Jan 18, 1915, with the Notice of Special Town Election on the first sheet. Twelve sections set construction standards, line extensions (300 ft free per half-kilowatt of applicants' lamps), street-repair and house-moving rules, 24-hour alternating-current service, lighting rates of 16, 14 and 9 cents per kWh with a 1-cent prompt-pay discount and $1.00 minimum, power rates of 10, 6 and 4 cents per kWh, and five-year rate terms. The Town agrees to at least eight 100-watt street lamps on an all-night schedule at $25.00 per lamp per year for ten years, and 5 cents per kWh for pumping if it builds a municipal water plant. Ends with Mayor Martin's signed certificate that the notice was posted for four weeks at the Post Office, the Mayor's Office and a third place. The only 1910s Dana ordinance whose full text is known to survive; the minutes book records passage only. Found loose, folded into the Council minutes book near pages 35-44 (Dec 1914 - Feb 1915).</text>
